SMILEY WAS CREATED 55 YEARS AGO

A smiley (sometimes called a happy face or smiley face) is a stylized representation of a smiling humanoid face that is a part of popular culture worldwide. The classic form designed by Harvey Ball in 1963 comprises a yellow circle with two black dots representing eyes and a black arc representing the mouth (😃)

On the Internet and in other plain text communication channels, the emoticon form (sometimes also called the smiley-face emoticon) has traditionally been most popular, typically employing a colon and a right parenthesis to form sequences such as :-), :), or (: that resemble a smiling face when viewed after rotation through 90 degrees. "Smiley" is also sometimes used as a generic term for any emoticon. The smiley has been referenced in nearly all areas of Western culture including music, movies, and art. The smiley has also been associated with late 1980s and early 1990s rave culture.

World Smile Day® is celebrated on the first Friday in the month of October every year. The idea of was coined and initiated by Harvey Ball, a commercial artist from Worcester, Massachusetts. He is known to have created the Smiley Face in 1963. The World's first World Smile Day was held in the year 1999 and has been held annually since. In 2018 World Smile Day is celebrated on October, 5.

And here's a song with Smiley Face in its title...
Listen to the song and choose the words you hear:

Gnarls Barkley
Smiley Faces

But what did you do/say
What did you do/say
Oh did you walk/run or did you walk/run away
Where are you know/been
Where have you know/been
Did you go alone or did you find a friend

I need to know this
'Coz I noticed I'm just smiling
How can the sun/fun
Have any sun/fun
Feeling free

And I can tell you know how hard this life can be
But you keep on smiling for me

So what went right/wrong
What went right/wrong
Was it a story or was it a song
Was it over night
Or did it take you long/strong
Was knowing your weakness what made you long/strong

For all the above
Oh how I love to see you smiling
An oh yeah
Take a little pain just in face/case

You need something want to embrace
To help you put on a smiley face/case
Face
Smiley face
